Meet June Livia, developing hormone-free contraception with continuous in-body sensing
Continuous in-body sensing for hormone-free contraception and fertility

Nina Bake (CEO) with the June Livia team.
The problem
For women who want contraception without hormones, the options ask a lot. Tracking fertility usually means taking your temperature at the same time every morning and assessing your cervical mucus, and logging the results day after day.
Temperature confirms ovulation after it has already happened while cervical mucus assessment is subjective, cumbersome, and highly dependent on the user.
What June Livia does
June Livia is developing a discreet in-body wearable for hormone-free contraception and fertility insight. The device continuously measures changes in cervical mucus, which shifts before ovulation, together with basal body temperature, which confirms ovulation afterwards.
Combining an early signal with a confirming one gives a clearer picture of the fertile window. The data goes to an app automatically, giving women personalised reproductive-health insights with minimal daily effort, whether the goal is avoiding pregnancy or trying to conceive.
16 years later
More than 16 years later, when we began exploring contraceptive options together with our daughter, we came to a surprising realization: despite all the technological and medical advances, the choices available to women had barely changed.
Women deserve better than having a choice between a pill, a spiral and poor reliability, and that is why we are here to change.

How it started
It all began with the birth of our first daughter, when after pregnancy and during breast feeding we explored alternatives to hormonal contraception. As life moved on and our family grew, the idea was put on hold.
