Meet Ocean Risk Intelligence, bringing risk intelligence to the infrastructure beneath the ocean

Risk intelligence for the critical infrastructure beneath the ocean, starting with subsea cables for the offshore wind energy industry.

Cecilia Sevillano (Founder and CEO).

The problem

Offshore infrastructure is becoming one of the world's largest investment frontiers. By 2050, $3‑4 trillion of offshore infrastructure investment is expected. Yet insurance is still priced with onshore models and asset decisions are made with fragmented engineering studies.

Currents and storms, shifting seabeds and ships dragging anchors are assessed separately, as a snapshot in time, while the ocean keeps changing over the decades an asset is in the water.

What Ocean Risk Intelligence does

Its risk engine models how environmental, engineering and human factors interact over an asset's lifetime, and translates them into financial risk insights that developers, operators and insurers can price and act on.

It starts with subsea power cables for offshore wind and plans to scale across the infrastructure powering energy, connectivity, and the blue economy.

Why now

A huge gap and commercial opportunity was developing before our eyes with the increasing importance of offshore critical infrastructure for national security and economic growth.

How it started

Having spent over a decade developing and commercialising risk intelligence solutions at Swiss Re, I knew first hand that there was a high degree of sophistication for land-based industries but close to none for the offshore assets.
