Meet PanelPlanner, helping solar installers send a quote in under two minutes

With PanelPlanner, solar installers send a detailed quote in under two minutes

The problem

When a homeowner asks for a solar quote, the installer has a lot of work to do before a single panel goes up. They measure the roof, work out how many panels fit, simulate how much power the system will produce and count every bracket and cable, often across several tools and a site visit.

It is slow, manual work, and every hour spent on a quote is an hour not spent installing.

What PanelPlanner does

PanelPlanner helps solar installers plan and sell solar installations faster. It combines 3D roof modelling, simulations and material calculations in one platform, reducing manual work and the need to switch between tools.

Using Google's 3D data, which covers 90% of Swedish homes, or drone scans accurate down to the centimetre, installers can do it all from their desk. A detailed quote takes under two minutes, and interactive graphs show the homeowner how much energy they will save and how the investment pays off. A built-in CRM then follows the project from lead to installation.

How it started

In 2023, Sweden's solar market surged: more than 100,000 new grid-connected installations were added in a single year.

The pace exposed real problems, reports of faulty installations and growing safety concerns, while experienced installers were under pressure to move faster without compromising quality.

One of those installers was a family friend of PanelPlanner CEO Oliver Wirström. He showed him how slow and manual the quoting process was.

As a computer science student, Oliver saw the opportunity to build a better way, turning that conversation into PanelPlanner.

Why this team

The three co-founders, CEO Oliver Wirström, CTO David Björklund and CPO Einar Alm Jorpes, study computer science at KTH, where PanelPlanner was accepted into the KTH Innovation Launch Program.

David has competed in programming nationally and internationally and Oliver has worked closely with solar panel installers installing solar on many homes around Sweden.
